But you have also likely discovered that that this industry can be quite difficult to get into on your own, and not just because of the high costs to buy the business. It’s like no one will really tell you the whole story of how to do it.

FRANCHISES:

You are probably aware that you can buy franchises in our industry for $35,000 - $70,000 - $150,000 or more with on-going royalties… (But who wants to spend that much money, especially with having to pay the yearly on-going royalties?  And in today's economy who has that much to invest?)

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY COMPANIES:

You probably have come across business opportunity companies who market and sell very expensive business programs, easily ranging from $25,000 to as much as $40,000 or more ... but the content just doesn't seem to be there.  Why are they “so expensive” when it seems like they offer so little?

The first reason is that they pay their sales people upwards of 25% sales commissions to make the sale. That means you could be paying $5,000 to $10,000 or more just to “reward the sales person” for selling their program to you… That is a great deal of extra money from your pocket that needs to be considered. Especially when some of these “sales people” tell you that they are not on commission... Don’t believe them.

The second reason they are so expensive is that they maintain high company profiles and high overhead. Look at their home office. Look at how many buildings they have. How many employees do they have? Look at the bloat! Who gets to pay for all of this? You, the customer.

Most business opportunities and franchises could be described as “retail” offerings as opposed to “wholesale” offerings, meaning that they are more expensive. Yet one of the major benefits of “being in business” is that all of your relative purchases and expansion can and should be done with “wholesale” dollars.

* Here’s what I mean by most costly:  If you sell $250,000 worth of promotional products in a year - that will produce $100,000 in total commission earnings based on a 40% commission schedule. Splitting the profits with your sponsoring company means that you only get to keep 1/2 for yourself, while you lose $50,000 to your sponsoring company. And that’s just for one year!

Imagine! In just your first year of selling for someone else…you “paid” $50,000 for the privilege of working with a sponsoring company. That’s more than what most business opportunities or franchises cost in our industry! Do that three years in a row and you have “lost” (paid) over $150,000 just for the privilege of working through someone else! Do you understand now why we say that being a dealer for someone else is the most costly way to get into this business? Giving up half of the earnings is the poorest choice of your options!
